Ashadharan post Kalyanda! Chokher shamne chotobelar Saraswati Pujo bheshe uthlo. The highlight of course was all the food - luchi, kheer, payesh and Khichuri-ilish maach bhaja for lunch (due to our bangal origins) and of course the khoier moya aar mishti doi. Saraswati Pujo in our house started at 7:30am, jate anjali dite deri na hoy! Saraswati pujo was the only anjali I "fasted" for, from 7:00 am till 10am :D The other highlight was "no porashona" but the no storybooks made that bit difficult too...

You captured it beautifully, with all the little details like 'bashanti ronger sari' and the kul etc. Lovely pictures woven together with a wonderful piece of writing.

For me as a bengali Saraswati is so basic that it never struck me that others wouldn't know about it...and till you and Miri wrote in I had now idea that saraswathi puja is celebrated in the South...I must admit that I am not the most well versed in Bengali customs though I have written about Durga and Laxmi Puja before

It is a little sad that , we south Indians, do not even know many festivals of Bengal. Surprised that sAraswathi Pooja can be celebrated in January too!

Do write more about Bengali customs and festivals ,, of course with appropriate food pictures.

The food looks delicious ! And I love the serene face of the Goddess..... For us Tamilians who prize education do much, we celebrate Saraswati Puja on the 9th day of Navratri. All books and even tools are kept aside and a few near the family deity( we would choose our hardest subject textbook and our " exam pen" while my dad would keep his hammer) and could be taken only the next day. Factories and Businesses also give a day off after performing Ayudhai Pooja- an arati to all the tools and machinery used and work begins only the next day.
