loved the post Kalyan ... the descriptions matched all the dishes we ate the other day at Shank's and even I who thinks 'Calcutta Biryani is all smell and no taste', felt that Arsalans Mutton Biryani was quite stellar ... not the ideal of mutton biryani that i grew up with but a new different and yet divinely delicious turn of the wheel

keep wondering about the friday spl the Irani Khichri ... any clues on that one?

Shruti, I guess Nigella and inner thigh quotes go together. i distinctly remember the cheesecake episode bec there was a cheesecake masterclass just before that in masterchef oz. the former was about perfection, how not to get cracks...nigella was about let's enjoy the cake :)

Kalyan, wonderful post on Arsalan! I happened to visit it on the second night and ordered mutton chaap and mutton stew. Both were good, though I'd still say that the Shiraz chaap bests Arsalan. As for the stew, it turned out to be a gloopy sort of gravy, almost like a handi and unlike a thinner version that Aaliya serves in Kolkata. Honestly, I've not had stew like Aaliya's anywhere else.

wonderful post Kalyan. It brought up a vision of steaming hot biryani. I read it word for word. Brought up many memories of Biryani and Rezala at Nizam's in Kolkata. I had lost hope of tasting Rezala in Bombay.
But tell me - I am familiar with the Bandra area but not Khar. I will be travelling down from Ghatkopar to Khar (Arsalan). What is the nearest landmark which I can direct the auto driver to.

Thank God,I'm headed to Cal in mid Jan....otherwise reading this post would have killed me ......

Was introduced by my Mom to Arsalan in 2007....went to the one near Ripon Street....Absolutely loved it ...

Returned back again in 2009,this time to the Park Circus 7 point crossing one......it was still stellar....In fact during that visit had quiet a few Biryani-Paratha-Chaap combos....

But when I visited back in 2010,my mom was no longer a fan,she said that the quality had deteriorated.....so I did not eat there instead opting for others like Shiraz,Rahmania,Royal,Aliah,Nizam's....

This time I'm gonna make it a point to revisit ,hopefully they have cleaned up their act in Cal....
